I was really excited when my french friend told me about The International Day of Dance. I immediately decided to go. I never knew such an event exist. It made me feel great to be a dancer because it seems like the world really cares. This event featured the French choreographer Mourad Merzouki. His works were really inspiring. They gave me a new perspective in modern dance. He had background in martial art, break dance, and modern dance. I love his fusion of different type of dance and style. The one really wow me was the boxing and dance. I would never thought of that boxing and dance could be together. I always had the impression that boxing is so aggressive and cruel. But Merzouki did a good job in moving the spirit of boxing—the spirit of “forever standing” —to dance. I wish I could see this piece on stage. (I just saw in the video). During the event, Merzouki’s dancers performed several selections of his choreography. They were so physical and spiritual at the same time.
